We are obsessed with staying on top of the latest advances in ophthalmic technologies. When we built Komoka Optometry we invested in only the best equipment to offer you more efficient and accurate diagnosing, monitoring and eye care. Wondering what all the fuss is about? Read about how we use our state-of-the-art equipment to treat you:
- HD Ultra Wide-field Fundus Imaging (Clarus 500)
- Autorefractor / Keratometer / Non Contact Tonometer
- Optical Coherence Tomography (Topcon Maestro)
- Intelligent Auto-refractor (Nidek Rt 6100)
- Visual Field Analyzer (Zeiss Humphrey HFA-3)
HD Ultra Wide-field Fundus Imaging (Clarus 500)
One of the ways your optometrist will establish a baseline for your eye care is by using a Fundus Imaging machine (also known as a Retinal Camera). We use this camera to capture high definition photographs of the back of your eyes. In these photos we can see your retina, optic disc, macula, retinal vasculature and posterior pole to monitor changes in your eye over time by comparing retinal images year-after-year. This is an important step in your comprehensive eye exam, because many eye problems start in your retina without warning and produce no symptoms.
Autorefractor / Keratometer / Non Contact Tonometer
You no longer have to choose between lens 1 or lens 2 when we test for your prescription. That's because our autorefractor does the work for you by quickly measuring your refractive error and prescription automatically. By measuring how light changes as it bounces off the back of your eye, your optometrist is able to find your proper prescription quickly and accurately.
We also use this machine to accurately measure the shape of your cornea; information we use to diagnose conditions like astigmatism, keratoconus, corneal scarring and corneal distortion. The Keratometer also helps us to fit speciality contact lenses.
This piece of technology also has a built-in non-contact tonometer, which performs an intraocular pressure test without direct contact with the eye. This test is important for older patients who need to be screened for glaucoma.
Optical Coherence Tomography (Topcon Maestro)
Your optometrist will use our Optical Coherence Tomography (we call it an OCT) to see each of your retina's distinctive layers to map and measure their thickness. These measurements help to set a baseline for your eyes, so that we can detect issues early on, diagnose and treat any retinal diseases (like age-related macular degeneration and diabetic eye disease). Our OCT uses light, rather than sound or radio frequency, to create a high resolution image of your retinal layers – imagery similar to a low-power microscope.
Intelligent Auto-refractor (Nidek Rt 6100)
Our top-of-the-line technology makes it possible to set your correct prescription quickly and easily – with results that are easy to explain and discuss with you. Our Intelligent Auto-Refractor provides improved precision with a quiet and smooth experience, while we measure your eyes for refractive error. This piece of equipment gives us the information we need to determine the right prescription to help your eye process images correctly. It’s a quick, easy and more accurate way to bring you closer to crystal clear vision every day.
Visual Field Analyzer (Zeiss Humphrey HFA-3)
With our visual field analyzer your optometrist is able to diagnose and manage glaucoma, macular degeneration and other conditions like brain tumours and strokes. By shining a spot of light onto the back of your eye and asking you to press a button when you see it, we can test your peripheral and central vision. The Visual Field Analyzer then analyzes your answers based on data from similar patients with or without various conditions.
